HRHO team participated in a policy dialogue on numbers of medical students - 2022

Human Resources for Health Observatory team participated in a policy dialogue to present numbers of practicing physicians in the West Bank. The discussions were headed by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health, with participation from the Deans of Medical Schools, the Medical Association and the Palestine Medical Council. Discussions focused on the the need to employ more physicians to meet the needs, and the effect of the large numbers of medical students currently in training on the quality of practical training, especially given the limited availability of training sites.


HRHO team participated in a workshop on availability of health workers in Palestine - October 2021

The Humam Resources for Health Observatory team participated in a workshop in the West Bank, to present data and indicators on the availability of practicing health workers in comparison to other countries. The workshop discussions touched on the issue large numbers of students and its effect on the quality of practical training in hospitals.







The workshop was headed by H.E the Minister of Health, with participation from several General Directors from the Ministry of Health, representatives from the private and NGO sectors, as well as representatives from the different health syndicates ...


PNIPH officially launches Palestinian Human Resources for Health Observatory

In July 2019, PNIPH officially launched the Palestinian Human Resources for Health Observatory. The culmination of over four years of research, development, and data collection, the Observatory provides a more accurate depiction of the availability and distribution of the practicing health workforce in Palestine. Information produced by the Observatory supports decision making and policy formulation towards improving the local health system. PNIPH presents lecture on the Palestinian health workforce at Italian university

In April 2019, representatives from PNIPH participated in the course, “Health Systems through Crisis and Recovery” at Sant’Anna, Scuola Universitaria Superiore Pisa, in Pisa, Italy. The course is conducted annually and, for the first time, Palestine participated as a presenter. PNIPH delivered a lecture on the health workforce in Palestine to health professionals from health ministries, NGOs, and other organizations around the world.


PNIPH shares HRH Observatory development experience at Health Workforce Observatory workshop in Cairo

In 2017, PNIPH attended a regional workshop in Cairo on health workforce observatories, hosted by the regional WHO office. PNIPH was chosen to present Palestine’s experience in developing the Human Resources for Health Observatory. Participants included focal points from health ministries and health organizations from countries in the region.


PNIPH conducts survey of practicing health workers in West Bank and Gaza

Between 2014 and 2016, PNIPH conducted a large-scale survey of health facilities throughout the West Bank and Gaza in order to gather baseline data on the availability and distribution of practicing health workers to be used in the HRH Observatory. Data collectors visited around 5,300 facilities between the West Bank and Gaza, and gathered information from around 36,000 individual health workers from different health professions, including administrative and support staff.


HRH Observatory Study Tour to Sudan

In 2013, representatives from PNIPH, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and the WHO Palestine country office participated in a study tour to Khartoum, Sudan hosted by the Sudanese Minister of Health. The study tour was conducted to gain a better understanding of the Sudanese Human Resources for Health Observatory, including the methodology used in its development and lessons learned. PNIPH leveraged the information gained in Sudan in the development process of Palestine’s own HRH Observatory.
